This homemade sazon seasoning recipe was love at first taste.  I was wanting a quick weeknight meal, had chicken tenders on hand and wanted a flavorful, kid friendly dish that everyone would enjoy.  The flavors of this sazon seasoning were finally the fresh taste I was looking for.  It takes only a few minutes to combine the spices and you’ve got a delicious homemade seasoning to try on chicken, rice, soups and more.

Spanish Seasoning

Sazón in Spanish means seasoning.  I just love this sazon seasoning and think it’s too good not to share.  In this sazon seasoning recipe I usually use turmeric in place of achiote (anatto seeds) only because I know it’s the more likely spice to be in one’s kitchen.  Traditionally achiote is the spice of choice to use in this spice mixture and gives the seasoning that gorgeous warm color, but I use turmeric in place of it here just to make it more feasible for other’s to make.  It is just as amazing even with the turmeric.  Please do try it with the ground achiote seeds if you have it; either way it is such a pleasure to cook with and taste.

Homemade Sazon Seasoning Mix

The beauty of a homemade seasoning is not only the savings in cost, but also the greatness of a homemade mix is that it doesn’t contain all the nasty preservatives like MSG.  You know, that wonderful ingredient you see in almost all those convenient packaged seasonings at the grocery store containing “monosodium glutamate.” Yuck! Stay away from that garbage.  There’s no need for it when you can make your own seasoning mix in 5 minutes.

Also, you have control over the sodium! That is so important for so many people.  So many of those store bought seasonings besides the MSG and filled with way too much sodium. You have total control when you mix your own.  This seasoning recipe has much less salt than most sazon seasoning recipes I’ve seen.
