This pink beverage is the real deal! It’s tangy and slightly sweet; a real treat on a hot day and a great addition to a party or even an adult mixed drink.  This pink lemonade is made with real lemons and fresh raspberries; no powdered chemical laden junk you get at the store and it’s so much easier to make than you think.  If you’re not a fan of the pink part, just leave out the raspberries and you’ve got a real nice homemade lemonade.

Real Lemonade

Our twins just turned 5 last weekend and I decided to make a fresh batch of this pink lemonade for their party because it’s one of their favorite going out drinks.  Our kids don’t drink anything but water everyday, not even juice, but when we go out to eat we let them have the treat of lemonade, and pink lemonade is their favorite.  Of course most lemonades they get at restaurants are made out of the fake stuff with HFCS added as a sweetener I’m sure.  If I’m going make my kids pink lemonade, I’m going to make it from real ingredients, so here it is.  I’m a big stickler for keeping sugary drinks out of our home, but sometimes you just have to treat yourself to such things as a real good lemonade.  It’s a treat in our household.

Lemonade Kid Disclaimer

So…I will admit my twins’ ended up not being huge fans of this pink lemonade because I guess it’s too real tasting for them.  Unfortunately, they’ve been too tainted by the fake flavor of commercial pink lemonade to enjoy it and I refuse to just keep adding more and more sugar to it to please their little taste buds.  My older son who’s developed quite the more sophisticated palette does however enjoy it and so have all adults that have sampled it.  As one taster said, “It’s the real deal.”

Adult Beverage Delight

My birthday happens to follow our twins’ birthday by only 5 days, so when I celebrated my birthday a couple days ago, I used this delicious pink beverage as my mixer for some fabulous mixed drinks. Just add a little vodka or bourbon if you prefer and you’ve got a very refreshing adult beverage.

Blender Disclaimer

This recipe is best made with a high speed blender, such as this one.  I can not guarantee the outcome of the lemonade or how it will process with a standard blender.  You need a really tough blender to pulverize your lemons for this recipe.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 large thick skinned lemons cut into wedges. (Seeds may be removed, but not critical if some small seeds remain)
  • 1 cup fresh organic raspberries washed
  • 8 Tbsp super fine cane sugar only super fine or caster sugar would work for this
  • 5-6 cups water 2 cups of water set aside 1st

Tools needed

  • 1 fine netted sieve
  • high speed blender
  • pitcher

Instructions

  • Pour 2 cups of water, all lemon wedges, raspberries and super fine sugar into blender.
  • Blend on medium to start for about 20 seconds, then switch to pulse and pulse another few times til all ingredients are emulsified.
  • Place your sieve on top of your pitcher and slowly pour blended mixture into pitcher, about a half cup at a time.
  • Use a spatula to help the liquid pass through the sieve by moving around the thick mixture. Repeat until all the mixture has been passed through the sieve, leaving only the liquid in the pitcher.
  • You may dump the pulpy mixture in the sieve once all the liquid has passed through the sieve into the pitcher.
  • Now add 3-4 cups of the remaining water into your pitcher, depending on your desired consistency.
  • You can add more sugar at this point if desired or more water.
  • Chill the lemonade for at least an hour before serving or you may serve over ice immediately.

Notes

Best served over ice. Try on it's own, as a mixer with iced tea or as a mixer for vodka lemonade.[br][br]***Disclaimer*** This recipe works out real well with a high speed blender, but I can not guarantee it will process well with a standard blender.
