1 cup jasmine rice

1 1/4 cups water

1/2 tsp finely ground sea salt

1 tsp coconut or olive oil

  1. Pour rice into fine mesh strainer and rinse under water for about a minute.  You may also soak the rice in a bowl with water and rinse and strain the rice 3-4 times.
  2. Add water, sea salt and oil to a medium sauce pot that has a tight fitting lid.
  3. Bring water to a boil over medium high heat.  Once the water begins to boil, add the rice to the pot, give it a quick stir.  Turn down heat to simmer.  Once simmering close lid and set a 12 minute timer.  Do not open the lid!
  4. Once the timer goes off, turn stovetop off, remove the pot from the heat and leave untouched and leave the pot covered for 10 minutes.
  5. Once the 10 minutes is up, you may fluff the rice with a fork and it is ready to serve!

I like to use the smallest burner on our stove for this stovetop jasmine rice.  It helps to keep the heat low for the simmering part.  If you have it simmering too hard or hot it will evaporate your water before the rice is cooked resulting in undercooked and possibly burnt rice.
