Juicing is one of my most recent passions for better health in our family. My husband and I were first inspired by the now well known documentary, “Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead.

”  We took that inspiration and almost immediately bought a Juicer

and did our own 5 day Juice Fast or so called, “Reboot” to see how we felt after doing it and to see if it would benefit our health anymore.

I’m actually not an advocate for a very long juice fast/cleanse (over 7 days) unless you’ve consulted your physician and I do believe long fasts like 30 days might do more harm than good in the long run, but do watch this movie if you haven’t yet as inspiration if you’re desperate to get healthier and need to add massive amounts of vitamins to your diet to improve your well being. You will feel a difference, I guarantee it. Please do your own research before you embark on any drastic cleanse though.

Juice Reboot

Regarding our 5 day Reboot, details will be in a future post, but all in all I can say that 6 weeks after completion of the fast we’re still juicing, but using it as a nutritional supplement to our diet.  I feel an energy boost since we did it and have found that I’m not needing my allergy medication as much, my digestive system has improved (not going to go into detail here…), I’ve kept weight off, my hair is shinier and stronger other improvements, so there definitely are great benefits.  The real proof will be when my husband and I have our blood-work checked by our PCP in a month or two.  We’ve both kept the weight off that we initially lost during the fast and feel that it’s given our metabolism a great boost.  We still eat normal meals, but supplement with 1 or 2 juices per day. I start every day with one big fresh juice before I even have breakfast. (It’s best to drink raw juices on an empty stomach from what I’ve read, especially green juices, but tea or hot water are fine to drink before) If I feel like I overindulged the day I might have a juice as a snack and add Chia Seeds

to my juice and feel quite satisfied with that as my since the chia seeds add great fiber and protein.

I use medium sized produce for recipes unless I specify otherwise. Also, I try to follow the EWG’s clean 15/dirty dozen plus list when deciding what produce to absolutely buy organic.  I personally do buy organic for the first 16 on the dirty list, so apples (#1 dirtiest) to kale (#16).

Give this juice recipe a try and let me know what you think.

Red Juice Delight

Katia
This is the first juice recipe I came up with that the kids really liked and kept coming back for more! It's semi-sweet, yet not too sweet and full of great nutrients from the hidden veggies. This recipe makes 2 full servings, about 32-34 oz (depending on your produce sizes)

This is the first juice I came up with on my own that the kids really liked! They kept asking for more which is not always the case with red juices I’ve made recently. It’s full of great vegetable nutrients as you can see here, but just enough sweetness from a little apple and orange.  Give it a try! The kids will never know they’re drinking beet, carrot and even parsley which are all very beneficial juicing ingredients.
